On May 12th, the Naturopathic Advocacy and
Community Awareness Team (N-ACT) hosted the 1st Annual Tempe Family
Fun Run & Walk at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, AZ.
With almost 200 runners pre-registered and great weather, the event was
greater than we could have hoped for.
The 5K got off to a great start with the singing of the National Anthem
by Amy Vance. The route took
you around beautiful Kiwanis Lake and almost made you forget you were running a 5K. Everyone who completed the 5K got a raffle ticket, no
matter whether you came in first, fifty-first or last place, for a chance to win fabulous raffle prizes.
After the 5K, the health fair had a little something for
everyone, with the various health vendors, bounce house, face painting, balloon
animals, and music from our very own DJ Kumar. Even the Tempe Fire Department stopped by to enjoy the
beautiful weather with us…and let us explore their fire truck.
We’d like to thank all our vendors: Wellness Key Chiropractic,
Whole Foods, AzNMA, Bikram Yoga Tempe, Natural Health & Fitness, Orange
Theory Fitness, Desert Springs Chiropractic Center, Nature’s Garden Delivered,
Herb ‘N Flavors, doTERRA, Dr. Ken Mitchell, and Max International. Also, we would like to express our
gratitude for all our donors: Arizona Cardinals, SCNM, Outrageous Olive Oils,
Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Coyotes, Arizona Diamondbacks, K1 Speed, C & S
Sporting Goods, JumpStreet, Polar Ice, As You Wish, Sunflower Markets, and
Natural Health & Fitness.
Finally, this event could not have been possible without our Gold
sponsor, Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM).
There were many smiles to be had all around. The feedback we’ve
received is enthusiastic and positive. Being able to provide Tempe families
with an event that is educational, promotes health, and best of all fun makes it all
worth it. We are excitedly anticipating the planning of the 2nd Annual Tempe Family Fun Run in 2013! Hope to see you next
year.
Sincerely,
Ashley Russell and Terra Dallmann

Naturopathic Advocacy and Community Awareness Team (N-ACT) is a student-run club at SCNM that creates the future leaders of naturopathic medicine. Naturopathic medicine helps individuals by treating the root cause of their illnesses using natural methods. For example, we help patients make lifestyle changes and use naturopathic approaches to encourage healthy weight loss.
